MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT
The international documentary media project "BRICS Grain"
The project covers grain production and the grain industry’s role in global food security coordination. The "BRICS Grain" television documentary series was launched in 2025.
  • The documentary series "BRICS Grain" explores the agricultural and economic importance of various grain crops, the achievements of Russia's agricultural regions, farming and bread-making technologies, and grain exports.
  • The "BRICS Grain" international media project was produced with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
  • The series premiered on the Russian-language TV BRICS channel. The first film is dedicated to wheat, one of Russia's key export products. Following its release in Russia, the "BRICS Grain" documentary project was translated into foreign languages and uploaded to the platforms of TV BRICS' international media partners around the world.
The project complies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals on food and with the final declaration of the XVII BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

The document emphasises the importance of ensuring food security and nutrition, as well as developing national strategies and international coordination aimed at improving food availability, sustainability, stability, and suitability.
The project was developed with the consultancy of leading experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and federal research centres, including the K. A. Timiryazev Institute of Plant Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFR RAS), the Scientific Research Institute of the Baking Industry (NIIHP), the N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR), the Federal Agrarian Research Centre of the South-East, and the Federal Research Centre of Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety.

About the project
RELEVANCE
The international media project 'BRICS Grain' is an effective format for promoting Russia’s export potential in the global information space and an effective way to build the brand of the Russian agro-industrial complex (AIC). It [project] includes not only wide distribution across leading media outlets in the BRICS+ countries and participation in international and national film festivals, but also educational events, including telebridges aimed at teaching Russian as a foreign language on agricultural topics. The first season is dedicated to Russia, but this format can also be used to promote the agricultural industries of other BRICS countries in the global information space.

Today, the BRICS countries account for more than 40 percent of global grain exports. In this regard, at the 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, it was proposed to establish a grain exchange that would strengthen the food security of its participants and significantly contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Russia is already setting records in grain production and exports. Moreover, Russian regions play a leading role in this process, cooperating with their counterparts in other countries. Experts have defined this process as "regional agricultural diplomacy".
